is “spirit” just a pre-science concept for consciousness and self-awareness? then spirituality would just be a tool for maintaining good spirit

what would happen if technological society (the bi-product of a few hundred years of science) taught millions of people that “religion is for the stupid” and spiritual is another word for esoteric and mystical? in a way those millions would be robbed of proven tools that helped maintain a healthy relationship with the spirit for millennia— with very few meaningful and easily accessible techniques offered to build and cultivate a healthy self-awareness

what would fill the void created by the absence of self-awareness? overinflated egos? addiction to anything that provides some structure or validation — work, money, substances, power, sex, abusive relationships? individualism misconstrued and exaggerated to a point where it starts hurting both the community and the individual?

it would be a strange place for humans
